Jackie Robinson's Birthday - January 31, 1919

As cliche as it sounds, he is a real American hero.

Broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 1947, and turns out he was a top notch Basketball player too.

Check out a profile by Hank Aaron for Time Magazine's "The Most Important People of the Century".

GQ's Salute to Normalizing Malnourishment

Former "OC" star and future Jumper accomplice, Rachel Bilson caught my eye in the grocery store yesterday. And by "caught my eye", I mean "made me cringe".

"American Beauty" eh GQ editors?

Maybe they're making a reference to the emaciated American economy....

Where do you watch Superman?

Yes, this is for real (and I was impressed that I just replaced my cardboard box with a TV stand).
Deputy Dog has a list of a bunch more out-of-control home theaters here, including Star Wars, Star Trek and Titanic themed rooms. The only thing is that I think it might be a tad weird watching a Lars Von Trier movie in the Death Star or, even worse, screening Back Door Sluts 9 on the Bridge of the Enterprise.

R.I.P - Heath Ledger

One of the most exciting actors of our generation has died, needlessly.

I'm Not There, Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight will all stand to verify the notion that he was great and was probably going to get even better.

The intial NYTimes story is here. Read.

Another Reason to Watch Police Academy

Besides the top-notch homophobic humor and Larvelle Jones's human sound effects, the infamous '80s classic Police Academy also gives you a chance to check out what Toronto was like a decade ago - especially Kensington Market and Liberty Village ("which is building up into quite the community these days"). I think Queen's Park makes a rather indiscreet cameo as well.

So yes, there were movies shot in Tdot before Driven.

Here are some other movies shot in the fair, generic hometown of mine - that all Torontonians can be proud of:

Adventures in Babysitting
American Psycho
Billy Madison
Booty Call
Cocktail
Cruel Intentions
Dracula 2000
Exit Wounds
Half Baked
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Johnny Mnemonic
Three Men and a Baby
The Virgin Suicides
& more...

Nice photo!...

Yes, it's a real movie...

To make a movie it takes a hell of a lot of work, people, time, money, energy, passion, etc, etc.

That's why it's always so horrifyingly awesome when all those ingredients are piled together to make a wonderful piece of crap. And at the end of the day, someone maybe ruined their marriage or missed their best friend's saxophone recital because they spent too much time working on... SHROOMS.

The title alone should draw slackjawed stoners, the guilt ridden reformed stoners, and the irony seeking stoners to the cinema house.

It's a horror movie, and seems to be a cautionary tale of sorts, like most teen horror films, where kids pay with their lives for being kids - clueless, horny, restless future corpses.

It looks a little too slick to have enough B-movie tawdriness to keep it afloat, but maybe just maybe it will be good enough to lead into Troll 2 at future midnight for maniacs screenings.
